Germany: Rail transports in 2009 16% down on year

The German federal statistics office reports that in 2009 transports of goods via railway declined by 16% to 312 mln t from the 371 mln t in 2008. The transport of agricultural commodities decreased by 12% to 8.9 (10.1) mln t, that of other foodstuffs to 3.2 (3.5) mln t, and that of fertilizers to 5.2 (7.3) mln t.
