Canada: 2010 cattle inventories seen down on year

The US agricultural attaché forecasts Canada’s cattle inventories at the end of 2010 at 12.7 (2009: 13.0; 2008: 13.2) mln head. Beef production is expected at 1.2 (1.2; 1.3) mln t, imports at 290,000 (247,000) t and exports at 490,000 (480,000) t.
Hog inventories are likely to fall to 10.9 (11.6; 12.2) mln head. Pork output should thus decline to 1.7 (1.8; 1.8) mln t. Imports are estimated at 110,000 (180,000) t and exports at 1.1 (1.1) mln t.
