South Korea: 2010 cattle and hog inventories likely to be up on year

The US agricultural attaché expects South Korea’s cattle inventories to rise to 3.2 mln head by the end of 2010 from the 3.1 mln head one year earlier. Beef production should reach 287,000 (267,000) t, imports are seen at 310,000 (314,000) t and domestic use at 600,000 (545,000) t.
Hog inventories are forecast to increase to 8.8 (8.7) mln head. Pork production should amount to 1.1 (1.1) mln t, imports to 343,000 (383,000) t, and domestic use to 1.5 (1.5) mln t.
