USA: 2010 corn acreage revised down, soybean and wheat up

The USDA revised down its estimate for this year’s planted corn acreage to 87.9 mln acres from the previous figure of 88.8 mln acres. Last year 86.5 mln acres had been planted.
The acreage planted with soybeans is revised up to 78.9 (March projection 78.1; last year 77.5) mln acres. The share of second crop soybeans - to be planted after the harvest of wheat or barley - should decrease this year to 3% of the total soybean acreage compared to the 6% last year and 9% in 2008.
This year’s all wheat area is revised up to 54.3 (March projection 53.8; last year 59.1) mln acres, thereof that of durum to 2.7 (2.2; 2.6) mln acres.
