EU: Biodiesel production in 2009 at 9.0 mln t

According to the European Biodiesel Board, the EU-27 produced 9.0 mln t of biodiesel in 2009, which is up from the 7.8 mln t in 2008. Major producers were Germany with 2.5 (2.8) mln t, France with 2.0 mln (1.8) mln t, Italy with 737,000 (595,000) t, Belgium with 416,000 (277,000) t, Poland with 332,000 (275,000) t and Portugal with 250,000 (268,000) t. Biodiesel production capacity stood at 22 (2009: 21; 2008: 16) mln t.
