Canada: Hog inventories as of April 1, 2009 9% down on year

Statistics Canada reports that hog inventories reached 11.9 mln head as of April 1, 2009 and were thus 9% lower compared to the 13.0 mln head counted one year earlier. This is the lowest number since April 1998. The number of sows declined by 6% to 1.4 (1.5) mln head.
